About Jersey Earlybird™ Daylilies
All across the United States, hundreds hybridizers creates thousands of new cultivars of daylilies every year. Though, with all these new selections coming one after another, more than half of all daylilies bloom primarily during the middle part of the daylily season. In zones 6 and 7, this is more or less the month of July.

Field Photo After dozens of generations of breeding, Dr. Darrel Apps (the hybridizer of popular reblooming cultivars such as 'Happy Returns' and 'Pardon Me') has pushed the limits of daylily bloom-time back more than a month!

Jersey Earlybird™ Daylilies are selected from a breeding program the focuses are daylilies that begin blooming a full month before the average daylily. First and foremost, Jersey Earlybird™ must bloom with the earliest of daylily selections.

Beyond that, all Jersey Earlybird™ selections must show the ability to give multiple rebloom scapes. If it was only early-blooming and not long blooming, after all, it would not be an overly exciting plant. At our test gardens in Southern New Jersey, our daylily experts have seen more than 100 days of color on one plant of Earlybird Cardinal™. If planted in full sun and not stressed by underwatering, we have seen four sets of rebloom scapes in one season!

Earlybird Cardinal Tag Finally, to be considered for the Jersey Earlybird™ lineup, each selection must offer a look and/or color that is not common for early blooming daylilies. The staple of the early daylily season is the world-wide-known 'Stella D'Oro', a small-flowered gold flower.

Since 'Stella' has cornered the market for small-flowering early gold daylilies, we have headed in a different direction for look and color. Our first selection, Earlybird Cardinal™, is a rich red color with heavily ruffled petals and a lovely green throat. It will be available at fine independent garden centers throughout the United States beginning in Spring 2010. Simply look for this label.
